Almost 4,000 cases and growing, 168 suspected deaths so far. Despite our best efforts, it is quickly spreading throughout the world.

Your thoughts and opinions. I'll start with a few topics.

Will it fizzle out like the Bird Flu or West Nile Virus of a few years ago? Could it potentially kill millions everywhere? Is it just a ruse by the government to distract us from the economic crisis? Has the zombie apocalypse started?

Discuss, fellow gamers.

Nothing really bad will happen. The only dangerous virus spreading world wide at the moment ist panic. It has infected half of the world's population! Panic is so dangerous because it's mediaborne.

That is my personal opinion, that it is not very serious. That it is just to get news ratings. It sort of reminds me of the summer of 2001 when shark attacks were reported almost daily. September 11 rolls around, and shark attacks virtually disappear from the news (for obvious reasons, of course)

Then again, the shark summer was due to a lack of news-worthy stories. Right now, we (at least in the USA) have not only the economic crisis, but the passing of Pres. Obama's 100 day marker, the Detroit meltdown, and today, the bankruptcy of Chrysler... one of the biggest corporations in the United States. People would be watching the news anyway.

Just trying to fuel the fires of lively discussion...

unless otherwise actually fornicating with the pigs, I don't see how this could "sometimes infect humans" if the virus doesn't even contain the correct enzymes to lock onto human cells.

In any cases, I live in Texas, we've had 5 reported cases so far in a crowded southern city of over 6 million, close to the border of Mexico, and facing upon a disease that's been said to be able to "spread through the air". Shouldn't common sense dictate that if the disease was really this contagious, that we'd be hit with an epidemic instead of having a contagion rate of nearly 10^-6, that's a 0.000001 chance of catching this in our current environment.

But hey, it's only been day 30 something since the first reported case of the swine flu came, and as we Texans like to say, them Mexicans are always coming up over the borders.

Pebble in the pond, you've nothing to worry about.

I agree with it being a media scare, it's probably no more dangerouse than normal flu if it can even infect humans if even it is a diiferent type pf flu, I think the media's just screwing us over to sell

It's a strain of the virus, it's name is as such only because a mutated form has somehow gotten caught in humans. And as I've relayed before, the only possible way for this to have happened was probably some sick perversion.

The 168 killed deaths are totally wrong.
How I heard yesterday in the news, there are just four confirmed deaths.

Number went up to 9 confirmed deaths. I never said that there were actually 168 deaths due to the virus itself. They're labeled as suspected for a reason.

Two students at a school close to mine might have gotten infected, the authorities are still confirming.

Media Scare. Bush used scare tactics to get what he wanted. They are using them now for various reasons. I don't know mush about the flu but the absouloute worst that i think could happen is a mini pandemic or a large epidemic. A vacine would be made then, and it would die down. Otherwise, it will just die down.

lol, people are terrified of that swine flu, and yet there are many other, more dangerous
diseases out there. some people die even because of normal flu that we all had at least once in our lives.
