Warning: SUPPOSE is used a lot. I suggest you brace yourself.
Alright, so suppose I make a custom map [EX: zm_omgrofl] and decide not to post it on the Custom Maps and Stuff thread. However, suppose a player comes onto my server, plays and then leaves, taking zm_omgrofl with him/her. THEN, suppose that same player puts zm_omgrofl on the Custom Maps and Stuff thread or starts a server and claims that map as his/her own. Whom, then, shall the victim [the ripped off] inform of this map-stealing if this hypothetical event is to happen? o.O
Or, [hypothetical event #2] what if the map-maker did post zm_omgrofl on the Custom Maps and Stuff thread and specifically asked the users/downloaders of zm_omgrofl to not claim the map as their own? o.O

sry, i ish nub, donno much boutz thiz kinda thang

DC will probably find a way to stop this from happening and if he doesn't he's got a good swing on that ban hammer.

Anyway why wouldn't you want to post it on Custom maps and Stuff forum?

It's rather hard for me to find out who is the original creator of a map.

you can report it to me but I can't guarantee that I can help because you could be a thief too.

of course I'll ban people who uploaded a stolen map / a map of someone else without his permission (If it is proofed)

The only thing I could recommend to prove that a map is yours is to either put some label in the map; A good place is in an unused entity, the tile map (if it's custom) or some in game graphic, although these could be removed with relatively little effort.

The alternative would be to keep a history of prior versions of the map as you develop it. If you have 5-10 previous versions of the map showing how it developed from the initial design concept I doubt any one would argue against you being the map designer. Another reason version numbering is handy...

It is vital that you catch it as soon as possible before it spreads and becomes general knowledge that "Player X" created the map, if you left it a year I doubt any one would care, let alone believe you.

we could make some kind of way to make a map which was downloaded on a server is different in his stucture.
like the map could have a different ending or something like that.
maybe DC could make it like in teeworlds.
there if you download a map while playing it doesnt automatically go to the main map folder.
he could also make it so that it will be saved temporarily with a different name. so that i won't be found by searching the whole system.

Yes, but the biggest problem is that you can't monitor all servers for your map. Someone could rename it example:
-Your map name: fy_lol
-Stealer's: fy_hahahahah

Also, the sealer can add his signs and marks, and then he could say the map is his.

My idea is an opinion to make a entity invisible. To make it visible, you would need to put an password. But It's just the same thing as putting the password on the map itself.

there are no changes in cs2d planned to prevent map stealing.

please accept that some ppl are stealing maps. don't show your map to anyone if you can't live with the fact that someone could steal it.

There's reasons why you don't want to post maps on the forums:
1. Easier access and or stealing process.
2. People probably look their for the latest maps.

Some reasons of why people (such as myself) doesn't want to have a map stolen:
1. I want it as the original, not yours.
2. Getting permission is one thing.. Stealing.. a whole other..
3. Whole new, rigged, less fun map.

I'm sure there's more reasons, but I'm real tired right at the moment .

Any form of map stealing is not good.
I'm sure any map maker (such as myself) wouldn't mind if you ASKED for their permission to edit the map a bit, but keep the same ideas in it..

My views are also different on map making when it comes to other games (such as Warcraft 3).. It's the same idea.. you don't want someone to edit your maps and not credit you for any of the terrain or items imported in it. Of course, this never happened to me on WC3 cause all the maps I've tried to complete always gave me an error for being to big..

My point is..
Map stealing or any type of stealing on any game.. is bad.. a clan doesn't want other people to impersonate a member.. So why can't map makers have the rights to protect their maps from being edited?

[P.S]- I don't mind the originals of my maps being hosted on other peoples' servers. I just don't like people editing maps and not crediting the original maker.

I apologize if I'm sounding like an ass in anyway.. but for all you map stealers..
×go fuck yourself.×
