I have found this rather interesting; I had been wondering how to get something like this to work for some time now. Thank you for this information; I hope to make a few interesting lighting effect maps with this method.

and if you dont have that file, you can use flare.bmp, just put color black, and shade type, its as good as the sand1-night.jpg

lmao... darkening a map is the oldest trick in the book

Look in your sprites folder and find a .gfx named "block". It comes with CS2D. Place it in your map and set its size to whatever, about 2000-3000 for both the x/y values. Set the transparency to about .8 for a night-ish look.

You can also set the color, so if you're looking for a dusk look, then set the color to a reddish brown color and set the transparency to about .85 or .9.

Remember, 1.0 transparency is completely transparent, 0. is opaque. It gets darker the lower the number goes.

OMG DUDE! I strongly don't suggest you to make the sprite 2500x2500!, it'd lag everything (not sure), anyways, it's better to set both sizes (X & Y Size) to 1600 (Every tile uses 32 pixels (per side), so, 50x32 = 1600)

Also, offset thing changes the position the sprite is being drawn from, so, if you set X Offset to -32, the sprite will be drawn 1 tile to the left from where the entity is.

Hope you understood me, my english kinda sucks...

Redmonkey is right. I've done it so many times that it has almost become instinct, which is bad because I don't just make zombie maps... o.o

EDIT: For a night-day thing, yeh've got to name the env_sprite and then have a delay [triggered by start] or whatever trigger the sprite. If you trigger a dark sprite at the beginning using start, it will go away. If you trigger the same sprite again, it'll come back and it'll be night!
